       INFORMATION

Arthroscopic rotator cuff repair recovery

Post operatively your arm will be rested in a sling. The outer bandage and dressing will be removed at 48 hours and a small watertight dressing will be retained for one week and at that stage, all dressing will be removed.

The arm will be in a sling for six weeks during which time, only passive movement is allowed.

Exercises will be given upon discharge from the hospital.

Following the initial six weeks, active movement will commence and supervised by the physiotherapist. By twelve to eighteen it is expected that active range of motion is equal to that of preoperative level.

Certificate will be issued on discharge from hospital and this usually covers you until your first out patient appointment. Office work can commence at about two weeks provided this does not involve any overhead movement. Heavy manual work will be restricted for about three months.
