Bankart Repair recovery
Following surgery, your arm will be immobilised in a sling and the outer dressing will be removed at 48 hours and a small watertight dressing over the puncture wound will be removed one week later.
For the first four weeks, the arm will be rested in a sling and you will be able to do elbow and wrist exercises but no shoulder exercises. Following which physiotherapy will be arranged at about four weeks for a gradual return to movement.
You will be issued with a certificate off work at your first out patient appointment.
Further certificate will depend on the type of work. For an office job, this is usually a couple of weeks off work is normal and for a heavy, manual job this can be up to 12 weeks off work.
Milestone : about 75% of pre op level at six weeks. By twelve weeks, it will be expected that almost full range of movement is achieved.
